Unifor Local 2‑S is proud to support the educational goals of our members’ families by offering two $2,000 scholarships. These scholarships are available to the children or grandchildren of Unifor 2‑S members**, reflecting our ongoing commitment to helping the next generation pursue their academic ambitions and build a strong future.
Eligibility
The following criteria must be met to be eligible for one of two 2S Unifor Scholarship awards of $2,000.
1.You are a child or grandchild* of a Current Unifor 2S member in good standing.
2. You are enrolling for full-time post-secondary education at a public institution in Canada (university, community college, technological institute, nursing school, trade college, etc.) or you are currently enrolled. The program must be for education towards a red seal trade, 2-year diploma, degree, or masters. A person may only be awarded this scholarship once per diploma, degree, master or red seal trade.
(Apprenticeships in red seal programs are considered for this purpose as full time students)
3. You are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.
4. Your application must be submitted to Unifor 2S via email and include all requested documents to be considered. (INSERT Email address HERE)
*Child or Grandchild by means of birth or through marriage, this includes stepchildren of a Current Member in good standing and does not include Children of Stepchildren (i.e. Step Grandchildren).
**Retired Members, applications will be accepted from a member or a member’s family that has retired during that fiscal year, Jan 1st to Dec 31st, assuming the above criteria has been met.
Scholarship Application Evaluation
A selection committee composed of 3 Unifor 2S members will evaluate scholarship applications. The selection committee reviews all applications annually and considers many factors when evaluating applications including, an applicant’s personal statement, academic achievement, responses to essay questions, and a demonstrated commitment to social justice through extracurricular activities and volunteerism.
Applications are evaluated for a possible total score of 100 points. The maximum score allotted to each section of the application is found below in the document descriptions.
In addition, the selection committee ensures that scholarship awards are distributed to best reflect the regional, sectoral, and membership diversity of Unifor.
